Finally, since ATG9/ATG9A KO in different species commonly leads to neurological defects found in neurodegenerative diseases [30,107,115], revealing the precise function of ATG9/ATG9A in cells will enhance our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases and underscore the importance of the autophagic process for normal neural functions.
