BDNF and congenital rubella syndrome: In the study by Yang et al. (2021) CRS mice manifested elevated hippocampal levels of proinflammatory cytokines with a simultaneous decline of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) and 5-HT, dopamine, noradrenaline, their corresponding metabolites levels, as well as gut microbiota dysbiosis, which was linked with depressive-like behavior.
