IFNG and infection: Transfer of NKT cells from WT mice but not IFN-γ–KO mice resulted in the restoration of a Th1-polarized immune response at the site of infection in the skin as well as dLNs, emphasizing the mechanistic importance of NKT cell–derived IFN-γ in establishing the polarization of the immune microenvironment, a role that might not have been apparent in systems with global deficiency or antibody blockade.
