Moreover, serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT), which were strongly elevated in NEC infants, also showed positive correlations with the expression levels of PARP1 (CRP: R = 0.682, p < 0.001; PCT: R = 0.762, p < 0.001) and PAR (CRP: R = 0.725, p < 0.001; PCT: R = 0.596, p = 0.007) (Fig. 2D, E, L, M). Here, PARP1 is linked to necrotizing enterocolitis.
