Based on the results that the position of the cement gland was not changed but the MHB and optic stalk were anteriorly shifted in zbtb11-overexpressing embryos (Fig 3N and 3R), the microcephaly phenotype caused by zbtb11 (Fig 2C and 2F) was probably due to an anterior shift of the diencephalon (optic stalk) and the hindbrain at the expense of the telencephalons and a part of diencephalon (a reduced eye phenotype). The gene discussed is ZBTB11; the disease is microcephaly.
