PSEN1 and proteostasis deficiencies: MG-132 is a proteosome inhibitor commonly used to experimentally induce proteinopathy related neurodegeneration (Posimo et al., 2015; Heinemann et al., 2016) although in one study MG-132 restored impaired activity-dependent synaptic plasticity as well as associative long-term memory in APP/PS1 mice, an effect possibly mediated through stimulation of the mTOR pathway (Krishna et al., 2020).
