Among the 740 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between PCOS and controls in our previous study [20], pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 (PDK4) was the most salient gene related to pyruvate metabolism and glycolysis, which obstructs pyruvate dehydrogenase-mediated fueling of glucose-derived pyruvate oxidation into the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle [21]. The gene discussed is PDK4; the disease is polycystic ovary syndrome.
