Over-expression of galectin-3 has been alsoassociated with decompensated congestive heart failure [26], an increased risk ofdeveloping heart failure after myocardial infarction (OR = 2.1 95% CI 1.2–3.6;p = 0.010) [27] and worse prognosis in patients with EF >40% [28].Two large trials (CORONA and COACH) based on patients with chronic and acutedecompensated heart failure found that repeated measurements of galectin-3 levelsprovided significant prognostic value in identifying those with worse outcomes[29]. The gene discussed is LGALS3; the disease is myocardial infarction.
