Cai et al. [65] reported that empagliflozincan preserve mitochondrial structure, stabilize cardiomyocyte structure, maintaincardiac systolic and diastolic function, and reduce myocardial inflammation viaactivating the Wingless/integrated (Wnt)/β-catenin/FUNDC1-dependent mitophagy, suggesting thatempagliflozin confers cardio-protection from AKI and can be used in the clinicaltreatment of cardiac dysfunction after AKI. Here, FUNDC1 is linked to acute kidney injury.
