ANXA1 and infection: Along with the modulation of cytoskeletal organization and of the phagocytic capacity of myeloid cells upon FPR2 activation, the interaction between host and parasite factors may explain, in part, the increase in the initial infection of host cells by Leishmania. Further, while the exact mechanisms by which ANXA1 interacts with FPRs are still under investigation, studies suggest that the binding of ANXA1 to lipids, particularly phospholipids, may influence its interaction with FPR2 indirectly (60).
