The results of experimental animal studies showed that long-termmoderate-intensity wheel exercise was observed to normalize diabetes-relatedendothelial dysfunction and improve insulin sensitivity in a diabetic mousemodel, and the results suggested a reversal of type II diabetic endothelialdysfunction by enhancing NO bioavailability through elevated production ofmitochondrial manganese superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD), total eNOS protein, andphospho-eNOS (Ser1177) [21]. The gene discussed is SOD2; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
