This peptide (hIAPP) is aggressively amyloidogenic and has a high tendency to form isolate amylin deposits, which are observed particularly in the islets of Langerhans of patients with T2DM, and it has been implicated in the disruption of the cellular membrane of β-cells (Hartman et al., 2009; Wineman-Fisher and Miller, 2017). The gene discussed is IAPP; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
