Interestingly, our investigation into T2D risk-associated methylation loci revealed that the vegan diet led to increased methylation in ABCG1 and PHOSPHO1, which provided relatively conflicting results; increase in ABCG1 indicates a reduced T2D risk, which is contradicted with the increase in PHOSPHO1, which indicates increased T2D risk. Here, PHOSPHO1 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
