Exposure to FASLG alone induced only the appearance of a cleaved intermediate of caspase-8 (p41 and p43), indicating that the ligand-mediated apoptosis was initiated, but in most cells it did not reach the stage of activation of caspase-9 or caspase-3, which is consistent with the observations that cancer cells are generally resistant to FASLG-initiated apoptosis [9].
