Since the packaging of CD59 is not an exclusive property of HIV-1 as it has also been shown in other enveloped viruses [61,62], namely human T lymphotropic virus type-1 (HTLV-1), human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and hepatitis virus type C (HCV), it would be interesting to assess whether these viruses promote CD59 packaging by downmodulating miRNA-26a during infection.
