LGALS13 and preeclampsia: Huppertz and Kingdom evaluated the amounts of PP13 in the STBM of preeclamptic patients in their placental immunohistochemistry study and found that STBM is likely a means of transporting significant amounts of PP13 (formerly confined in the disrupted trophoblast), which might cause PP13 to rise in preeclampsia patients as gestational age increases [13].
