There are, however, inherited diseases that have been reported to be caused by SINE insertions, including an intronic SINE in FAM161A that is associated with PRA in Tibetan Terriers and Tibetan Spaniels and an exonic SINE in STK38L that causes early retinal degeneration in Norwegian Eklhounds [5,55,56]. This evidence concerns the gene STK38L and retinal degeneration.
