Over 30 genes have been identified as being linked to ALS [2], with the most prevalent mutations found in SOD1 (Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase 1), C9ORF72 (chromosome 9 open reading frame 72), TARDBP (TAR DNA-binding protein 43; TDP-43), and FUS (fused in sarcoma) [3]. Here, SOD1 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
