Rasagiline has been demonstrated to be neuroprotective in PD and oxidative stress model systems by preventing the formation of ROS derived from the oxidation of dopamine by MAO-B and via an anti-apoptotic action, which appears to be independent of MAO-B inhibition and related to its pharmacophore N-propargyl moiety [29,30,31].
