Yersinia infection or TAK1 blockade has been proposed to induce a combined form of cell death termed PANoptosis, involving the simultaneous activation of pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis, as assessed by phosphorylation of RIPK3 and the mixed lineage kinase domain–like pseudokinase (MLKL) pore-forming protein, coincident with activation of apoptotic and pyroptotic caspases (12, 13, 37).
