Notably, the DEGs from the M-C contrast were enriched for biological processes important for NAFLD, such as “cholesterol homeostasis” (ABCA1, GRAMD1B, INSIG1, LDLR, MYLIP, PCSK9, SREBF2, TMEM97) and “lipid metabolic process” (ACSL3, ACSL4, FADS1, FADS2, INSIG1, LDLR, LIPE, NAAA, and SCD; Table 2 and Table S4). This evidence concerns the gene ACSL4 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
