Notably, the DEGs from the M-C contrast were enriched for biological processes important for NAFLD, such as “cholesterol homeostasis” (ABCA1, GRAMD1B, INSIG1, LDLR, MYLIP, PCSK9, SREBF2, TMEM97) and “lipid metabolic process” (ACSL3, ACSL4, FADS1, FADS2, INSIG1, LDLR, LIPE, NAAA, and SCD; Table 2 and Table S4). Here, ACSL3 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
