The expression of many ion channels and transporters increases after ischemia, further contributing to the pathogenesis of stroke.[25, 26] To determine whether SWELL1 expression is regulated by ischemia, we first used quantitative real‐time PCR (RT‐PCR) and immunoblotting to analyze the expression of SWELL1 in three regions after transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO): the uninvolved hemisphere, peri‐infarct region, and the infarct core, identified by 2,3,5‐triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining (Figure 1A).
