Somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) are differently expressed in human meningioma, with SSTR2 being the most commonly identified subtype.14 Its expression has been demonstrated also in canine meningioma.10 Activation of these receptors by somatostatin results in triggers intracellular pathways leading to cell cycle arrest.15 Besides a direct anti-neoplastic effect, the activation of SSTRs plays a crucial role in opposing secondary effects associated with tumor growth. This evidence concerns the gene SSTR2 and neoplasm.
