SIRT6 and cancer: Akin to the effects of the unique Sirt6 gene found in long-lived naked mole rats (see Box 2) (Tian et al., 2019), a population of centenarians was found to be overrepresenting a specific allele of the SIRT6 gene containing two missense mutations, which enhances repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and the killing of cancer cells (Simon et al., 2022).
