Calorie restriction mitigated the effects of obesity on the lipogenic protein sterol regulatory-element binding protein 1 (SREBP1), attenuated mTORC1 hyperactivation, reduced signaling through extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases 1 and 2 (ERK1/2), and induced the expression of negative growth regulators such as regulated in development and DNA damage responses 1 (REDD1) and cleaved caspase 3 in skeletal muscle, as evidenced by Western blot analysis [128]. Here, SREBF1 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
