Bioinformatics analysis revealed higher expression levels of genes involved in the “ferroptosis” pathway and “glutathione metabolism” pathway, such as ACSL6, ACSL4, GSS, GPX2, and GPX3 in individuals with NASH compared to healthy controls; meanwhile, the expression of iron exporter ferroportin (SLC40A1) was down-regulated (94). This evidence concerns the gene SLC40A1 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
