It has been argued that alpha-synucleinopathies, and in particular Parkinson disease (PD), are amongst the fastest growing neurological disorder worldwide [1]; they are a group of neurodegenerative disorders characterised by pathological hallmarks such as abnormal accumulation of alpha-synuclein positive inclusions in the neurons and/or glial cells that trigger progressive neuronal death through a series of cascading cellular pathways (i.e., mitochondrial impairment, lysosomal dysfunction) [2, 3]. Here, SNCA is linked to synucleinopathy.
