Inhibition of prosurvival Bcl2 family proteins Bcl-2, Bcl-xL (“BCL-2–like 1”), and Bcl-w with ABT-737 or, importantly, Bcl-xL alone (with A-1331852) (Fig. 5C) induced apoptosis of lung cells, which was enhanced by viral infection, consistent with a role for Bcl-2 family proteins in regulating cell viability during SARS-CoV-2 infection. This evidence concerns the gene BCL2 and viral infectious disease.
