According to European Crohn ́s and Colitis Organization (ECCO) guidelines, the current goal is to promote clinical remission defined as cessation of rectal bleeding and normal stool frequency, supported by increase of hemoglobin (Hb) and reduction of specific inflammatory markers (fecal calprotectin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C reactive protein (CRP) (Travis et al., 2011; Raine et al., 2022).
