IL6 and heart failure: Interleukin-6 is a predictor of long-term cardiovascular mortality in patients with acute coronary syndrome,1,2 involved in heart failure,3 and has been suggested to predict the onset of coronary artery disease (CAD).4 It was described to be independently associated with the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, and heart failure in patients with stable coronary heart disease.5 Within the inflammation cascade, IL-6 has pivotal functions at the crossroads of the innate and adaptive immune responses.
