A possibility of paraneoplastic syndrome secondary to hepatocellular carcinoma which is known to cause carcinomatous neuropathy was considered due to increasing abscess size. A diagnostic aspiration of the abscess revealed no evidence of cellular atypia, and tumor markers workup was within normal limits, showing serum alpha-fetoprotein levels of 8.1 ng/mL, cancer antigen 19.9 of 13.28 U/mL, and carcinoembryonic antigen of 1.05 ng/mL. The gene discussed is CEACAM5; the disease is abscess.
