For cardiometabolic traits, we demonstrated a causal relationship between total cholesterol and coronary heart disease, and this association has previously been shown in a meta-analysis and systematic review.23 We also showed a causal relationship between total cholesterol and myocardial infarction as well as apolipoprotein B and myocardial infarction, both of which has been previously demonstrated by non-MR studies.24,25.
