Recent studies have shown that the serine protease inhibitor, camostat mesilate, which is currently in use to treat oral squamous cell carcinoma and chronic pancreatitis, can limit fibrosis in experimental kidney disease by a mechanism which includes attenuating TGF-β expression and collagen IV deposition (Hayata et al., 2012). Here, TGFB1 is linked to oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma.
