CGAS and viral infectious disease: Several subsequent studies have identified cGAS as an important player in inhibiting +ssRNA viral infections such as West Nile virus (WNV),[38] dengue virus (DENV),[11b,c] and SARS‐CoV2.[39] In the life cycles of these viruses, the massive rearrangements of intracellular membranes may trigger the mislocalization of cellular DNA that serves as a substrate to activate the cGAS‐STING pathway.
