Obesity and lifestyle factors impact on the progression of CKD whatever the underlying cause in the human population (Chesnaye et al., 2024) and so while non‐diabetic patients benefit from SGLT2 inhibitors, it is possible that the pre‐diabetic phenotype (obesity and lack of exercise; metabolic syndrome) might be part of the reason for this benefit. The gene discussed is SLC5A2; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
