Although the exact etiology of AD remains unknown, two components have been identified thus far as key players in the disease: amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques, formed by the aggregation of intra- and extra-cellular Aβ, and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) composed of hyperphosphorylated tau protein accumulation [11,12,13,14]. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
