Txnip, an endogenous inhibitor of the antioxidant protein TXN, is a notorious mediator of endothelial dysfunction and hypertension [49]; Egr1, which has been previously shown to play a renoprotective role in acute kidney injury [50] and is identified as a marker of neointimal remodeling, correlates to progression in human arterial hypertension [51].
