In AKI caused by rhabdomyolysis, the released substances such as myoglobin and sarcoplasmic proteins, due to the necrosis of skeletal muscle cells, can be filtered through the glomeruli, leading to injury via different mechanisms, such as intratubular obstruction, renal vasoconstriction, inflammation and tubular damage associated with reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. This evidence concerns the gene MB and acute kidney injury.
