GPX4 and age-related macular degeneration: Liu and associates (256) analyzed sodium iodate (SI)-induced AMD cellular models and discovered that SI, while not influencing GPX4 activity, could deplete intracellular GSH, liberate Fe2+ from liposomes, increase intracellular ROS production, and increase lipid aggregation, consequently precipitating ferroptosis in ARPE-19 cells.
