The PROTECT trial (Use of NT-proBNP Testing to Guide Heart Failure Therapy in the Outpatient Setting) compared NT-proBNP-guided therapy (with a goal of ≤ 1,000 pg/ml) with standard of care management in 151 patients with HFrEF and found that NT-proBNP-guided therapy reduced the primary endpoint of total cardiovascular events over a mean follow-up of 10 months, as well as improved LVEF along with LV end-systolic and end-diastolic volumes [28]. Here, NPPB is linked to heart failure.
