Hc-CATH, a cathelicidin derived from the sea snake Hydrophis cyanocinctus, has shown potent inhibitory activity against ZIKA-virus infection in a pregnant mouse model – an effect that resulted from a combination of direct disruption of the viral envelope by the peptide and downregulation of a kinase receptor, AXL, that mediates ZIKV infection (Liu et al., 2022; Wang et al., 2022). The gene discussed is AXL; the disease is Zika virus infectious disease.
