PINK1 and Parkinson disease: Given this, it would be advantageous to identify tissues and conditions where complete flux through the PINK1-dependent mitophagy pathway could be monitored, as this would not only shed insights into how PINK1-dependent mitophagy could go awry in PD, but also provide a setting whereby novel therapeutic approaches could be easily tested in a physiological setting to determine engagement of this mitophagy pathway.
