The major finding of this study indicates that the polymorphism in the Ser/Ser allele of codon 249 of exon-7 of TP53 (rs28934571) contributes to a 3.54-fold increased risk for GI cancer in the study population, which is supported by similar findings with strong association between the 249(Ser) TP53 polymorphism in colorectal [29], hepatocellular [30], and cervical cancer risk [31]. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is cervical cancer.
