An established chelator, Dp44mT, was used as a positive control (Supplementary Figure S1C) and, as expected, it markedly induced the expression of NDRG1 mRNA in breast cancer cells (MCF7, MDA-MB-231) and non-malignant fibroblasts (MRC5), even though the response was significantly higher in MCF7 cells. The gene discussed is NDRG1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
