As previously reported, non-targeted iron chelators, as well as novel thiosemicarbazones, can markedly induce the expression of NDRG1, which subsequently suppresses pro-oncogenic mechanisms within cancer cells (Kovacevic et al., 2011; Gutierrez et al., 2014; Menezes et al., 2017; Park et al., 2020b; Chekmarev et al., 2021; Geleta et al., 2021). The gene discussed is NDRG1; the disease is cancer.
