NDRG1 and cancer: It is well documented that NDRG1 is phosphorylated at multiple sites by serum- and glucocorticoid-induced kinase 1 (SGK1), which further primes NDRG1 for subsequent phosphorylation by glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3), through which it demonstrates its anti-cancer properties (Murakami et al., 2010).
