In another study, mice with cardiac KO of HDAC4 developed heart failure in diabetes models (STZ or db/db), which was rescued by the expression of the N-terminal proteolytic fragment of HDAC4 (Kronlage et al., 2019), suggesting that the N-terminal fragment of HDAC4 plays a role in protecting the diabetic heart from failure. This evidence concerns the gene HDAC4 and diabetes mellitus.
