A study conducted by the INternational Study Group of Pediatric Pancreatitis: In Search for a CuRE (INSPIRE) Cohort discovered that pathogenic PRSS1 variants, older age at the first episode of AP, or absence of toxic/metabolic risk factors increase the likelihood of developing CP, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, and diabetes (11). Here, PRSS1 is linked to exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
