Therefore, in the myocardium of T2D patients with severe AS, the reduced mitochondrial Ca2+ level and ensuing energetics due to the reticulum-mitochondria Ca2+ uncoupling, may be in part compensated by the remodeling of the mtCU at the gene level, i.e. a reduced MICU1/MCU ratio favoring the increased mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake. This evidence concerns the gene MICU1 and aortic valve stenosis.
