A case–control study found that serum AD-related proteins such as amyloid ApoE1, ApoE2, ApoE3, and ApoE4 were increased in healthy controls but not in T2D patients with AD following hypoglycaemia (Moin et al. 2021), suggesting a protective effect of AD-related proteins against the severity of hypoglycaemia. The blunted response of AD-related proteins in T2D patients may explain these findings. The gene discussed is APOE; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
