While BQ is not an approved medication, two FDA-approved low-potency DHODH inhibitors (leflunomide, teriflunomide) are effective in treating autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis and act to decrease the activity of auto-reactive T-lymphocytes (Klotz et al., 2019; Fox et al., 1999; Miller, 2021). This evidence concerns the gene DHODH and multiple sclerosis.
