Research from several labs including ours showed that inhibiting the synthetic enzyme for MUFAs, stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD), in PD patient-derived neurons ameliorated the neurotoxicity (Nuber et al., 2021; Nuber et al., 2022; Fanning et al., 2019; Vincent et al., 2018; Imberdis et al., 2019), and improved numerous PD-like motor phenotypes in the 3K model but also in mildly impaired WT αS tg mice (Nuber et al., 2021; Nuber et al., 2022). The gene discussed is SCD; the disease is Parkinson disease.
